Sara Ramirez is a popular Mexican-American actor, singer and writer. Her mom raised her in the USA and she was subject to many racial taunts that left her feeling like a non-person. Her confidence began to grow at the age of nineteen after she took part in a school audition and was highly praised for her singing. She not only gained confidence from the experience however, she also re-evaluate her plans for her career. She was a graduate of the New York's Julliard School at the age of 22. At the age of 23, her first Broadway performance with Paul Simon's The Capeman, and her debut in the film You've got Mail, were her biggest breaks. Her biggest break came with her performance as The Lady of The Lake in the first Broadway adaptation of Spamalot. She won the Tony Award and received great reviews for her performance. Following that, she was cast as Dr. Callie Torres in ABC's Grey's Anatomy. This led to her gaining wider fame. As a professional singer She has also recorded a single as well as an extended piece. In her role as an activist, she is a tireless advocate for LGBT equality.
